A lightweight plywood made from black poplar (Populus nigra) which is often grown in rotation with arable crops, provides a panel that is stable and very strong, but has the added benefit of being extremely light.
Light weight plywood is used to make house roofs, lofts etc. It is also used by motorhomes, campers, caravans, RVs and other vehicles, doors, toys, boats and yachts, decorative panels, furniture and joinery and packaging, shop fitters. And display/exhibition companies, where its light weight and/or light- colored, clean faces are advantageous.
Because the density of lightweight plywood is approximately 40-45% lower than that of commonly used plywood, it is used where a lightweight panel solution is desirable at a competitive cost.
